Transportation meeting to look at local needs

FRANKLIN COUNTY: Not since the oil embargo in the 1970s has the United States seen the price of gasoline jump as quickly as it has in recent months. This increase is especially hard for those who commute out of town for work.
Krista Chadwick, Public Transit Assistant Administrator at the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VAoT), is hoping that an upcoming transportation forum held in St. Albans will address the needs of people in this region who are using public transportation, or who wish to utilize such services.
“These public meetings are tied into Short Range Public Transportation Plans, which are updated every five years,” said Chadwick.
There will be 13 regional meetings held throughout the state in the next few weeks.

Local man makes new home with renewable resources

ENOSBURGH: John Pellerin is new to the Enosburgh area.
A professor at Johnson State College, he recently moved here from West Barnet. His home is a beautiful 15-sided, 1,200-square-foot, round house with a finished-off basement. Shape aside, it’s also different from a traditional home in another big way.
Pellerin lives off the grid.
In his front yard is a 510 watt solar panel, a turbine, and fuse boxes. Aside from a few unique features, the home is not unlike others.
“We’re all television addicts,” Pellerin said, pointing out his TV set, which is unplugged when not in use. A television is a “ghost consumer,” consuming 200 or 250 watts when on, but also about 60 watts “to keep itself ready to be turned on,” he ...
